The perfect vessel for enjoying fine Japanese sake or whatever spirit fits the mood. Over 425 years old, this excavated and wonderfully restored sake cup is one-of-a-kind and sure to impress. Own a piece of history brought back to life by a very skilled and creative Japanese gold joinery artisan.
This Karatsu yama-hai (mountain style) sake cup dates from the Momoyama period. Formed with an itokiri (string-cut) foot and described as horinote (an excavation piece), it has an appealingly rustic character typical of early Karatsu wares. There are also natural kiln deposits and firing effects that enhance the ceramic surface and contribute to the piece’s unique character. A carefully executed yobitsugi repair (a repair done by adding a fragment from another ceramic work) adds further charm and depth of character.
Utterly unique and historically interesting, this wonderfully restored sake cup is approximately 3.4 inches wide (8.5cm) and stand 1.8 inches tall (4.5cm). It comes with a custom made box and a protective wrapping cloth.
*** International shipping and insurance is included in the price.
