With awards too numerous to mention, Yanagihara (b. 1934) is still producing masterpieces into his 9th decade. The piece seen here is from a series he did in the 70’s known as “Kin-gin-sai” noted for its incorporation of silver and lustrous glazes. Not only an artist but an academic, Yanagihara spent several years lecturing in the US on the west coast where he organized a number of exhibitions of his work. Later, on returning to Japan, he secured a position at the Osaka University of Arts and has continued to very actively exhibit his creations, most notably a recent exhibition in 2020 at the Museum of Oriental Ceramics in Osaka.
In excellent condition, this piece is 2.75 inches wide (7cm) and stands 2.2 inches tall (5.5cm). With the artist’s signature clearly visible on the base, it comes in a silk protective pouch for safe-keeping. *** International shipping and insurance is included in the price.
