An Edo Period Karatsu Tea Bowl with Gold Repairs

Artist:
—
Era:
Edo
Price:
$1,750

This kutsu-shaped (shoe-shaped) Karatsu tea bow, having stood quietly through the passage of ages is a superb example embodying both the serene beauty and powerful presence that define the essence of Japanese antique ceramics. Inside it features a richly pooled amber glaze while the outside is adorned with flowing “Madara” glaze often seen in this kind of ceramic. Together they create surfaces reminiscent of the natural landscape. The expertly applied kintsugi repairs are the crowning touch--making this piece a treasured item—hopefully to continue to be passed down through generations.

In fine antique condition, this piece stands 3 inches tall (7.5cm) and measuring 3.5 inches (9cm) at its widest point, and has a length of 4.75 inches (12cm). It comes with a period wood box and with an antique protective wrapping cloth.

*** International shipping and insurance is included in the price.
