Described as a “Tsuki-no-Umi” (Ocean of the Moon) sake cup we can see immediately the inspiration for this recent work from Kurokawa Daisuke. Fashioned from glass, the smooth and luminous interior starkly contrasts; yet, oddly compliments the textured and crater-marked exterior that refracts light in a brilliant kaleidoscopic display. A wonderful addition for the serious sake drinker or collector of modern fine art.
Born in Fukuoka in 1982, Kurokawa graduated from Chiba University with a degree in Industrial Design. A few years later he was accepted into the Tokyo Glass Art Institute where he perfected the techniques we see today in his numerous artworks . A prolific creator, Kurokawa comes out with new pieces and new inspirations in a continuous stream. The piece new see here was inspired by celestial bodies and is from one of his most recent exhibitions.
In perfect condition, this stylish and modern sake cup is 7cm at its widest point, and stands 5.2cm tall. Unboxed, it has the artist’s signature on the base and comes with a protective silk pouch. *** International shipping and insurance is included in the price.
