Oribe is a visual style named after the late-16th-century tea master Furuta Oribe (1544-1615). While most Oribe pieces are adorned with abstract, minimalistic, and often naturalistic themes, blue/ green plates and platters are usually decorated with a cornucopia of swirling colors and textures as seen here. This unassuming Oribe plate is antique, likely from mid-to-late Edo and is perfect for serving sushi or appetizers or just as a decorative item to add a splash of color.
In fine antique condition, this “boat shaped” serving tray is 15.25 inches in length (39cm) and stands 2.75 inches tall (7cm). A beautiful antique piece waiting for a new home.
