Born in Tokyo in 1937, Takauchi got started in his career as a potter in the illustrious town of Mashiko, renowned for producing untold quantities of epic pottery and legions of masterful potters. First gaining wide recognition in the 70s for his offerings in the Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition, he later went on to actively exhibit across Japan and also abroad, most notably participating in an event put on by the Alberts Museum in England in 1983 and as one of 100 artists selected for the international “Now“ exhibition in France in 1995. Takauchi gained a reputation as a cutting edge contemporary artist by blend traditional Japanese pottery techniques such as Oribe and Ki-Seto styles with his own unique perspective and innovative ideas.
