Takashi Nakazato is a celebrated Japanese ceramic artist whose family's mastery of pottery now spans 14 generations. Born in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture in 1937, Nakazato inherited a rich legacy of craftsmanship dating back over 400 years. He trained extensively in traditional ceramic techniques under his father, and later pursued further studies at the Kyoto City Arts and Crafts Institute. Nakazato's work is deeply rooted in the aesthetics of Karatsu-ware, known for its earthy tones and rustic charm, yet he infuses it with his own contemporary vision and innovative spirit. Today Nakazato's influence extends far beyond his native Japan; he has exhibited widely internationally (in the US, various countries in Europe and the Middle East, China, Korea) and has been honored with numerous awards for his contributions to the world of ceramics. Throughout his prolific career, Nakazato has not only upheld the legacy of his family's tradition but has also elevated it to new heights, inspiring generations of artists and enthusiasts alike.
In very good condition with several recently applied gold repairs that add to the overall aesthetics, this vase is 3.5 inches at its widest point (9cm) and stands 4 inches tall (10cm). It comes housed in its original wood box (tomobako) signed and sealed by the artist.
