Contemporary

Not to be confused with the Olympic medalist, this Tomita Hiroyuki (b. 1977) is a talented potter pushing the bounds of an otherwise conservative field where many ceramic forms are carried forward for centuries and sometimes millennia. Beginning his artistic endeavors in the field of metal casting, he soon met and became a student to Ijuin Mariko who introduced him to the world of ceramics. In 2007 he opened his own workshop and since that time he has been actively creating and exhibiting his unique creations that tend to fall far outside the orthodoxy, brimming with sharp contrast, opulence, and paradoxically a good measure of refinement. In the creation of this series of sake cups (guinomi), Tomita stated that his goal was to fuse 4 criteria; delicacy, elegance, boldness, and wildness. We leave it to you, the sake drinker, to judge whether he succeeded.

In new condition, never having been used, this sake cup is 2.75 inches at its widest point (7cm) and stands 2.2 inches tall (5.5cm). It comes with its original wood box (tomobako) signed and sealed by the artist and a protective wrapping cloth.

*** International shipping and insurance is included in the price.
